Month-long civilian firearms training camp concludes

Mysuru: Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) L. Nagesh urged citizens to exercise extreme caution when handling firearms at home.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the month-long civilian firearms training camp held at the District KSRP Grounds in Jyotinagar, Mysuru, he emphasised that while keeping firearms at home is permitted, safety should remain a top priority.

Highlighting the importance of proper handling, he advised that firearms must be kept unloaded and out of the reach of children and that extra care is essential during cleaning.

He stressed that firearms should not be misused for illegal activities or given to unauthorised individuals. Those who purchase firearms legally must adhere strictly to the rules and guidelines.

Nagesh also reminded participants that firearms must be surrendered to the Police during elections and can be retrieved afterwards. Any transfer of firearms must comply with legal procedures, he noted.

The 52 participants, who completed the training, were commended for their discipline, comparable to that of Police personnel. Only those who undergo such firearm training will be allowed to purchase firearms, Nagesh reiterated.

Participants, who excelled in firing practice, were presented with mementoes and congratulated during the event.

The ceremony was attended by District Armed Reserve Dy.SP Veeranna, Inspector Deviprasad, Sub-Inspector Sunil and the training staff.
