Ustad Krishna Jettappa passes away

June 3, 2018

Mysuru: Nonagenarian Ustad Krishna Jettappa (94), mentor and guide for many wrestlers of the famed ‘Vajramushti Kaalaga’ for over 50 years,  passed away at his residence in Raghavendranagar here on Saturday due to age-related ailments.

He is survived by his wife and 10 children. Jettappa was also a traditional Orthopaedician and a healer.

He was a mentor for hundreds of wrestlers who had participated in the ‘Vajramushti Kaalaga’ held as part of the Private Dasara Festivities of the erstwhile Royal family in the Palace premises.

Krishna Jettappa himself would participate in the ‘Vajramushti Kaalaga’ as a wrestler, when the last King of Mysuru, Jayachamaraja Wadiyar would preside over the Dasara festivities.

His son Bangara Jettappa has been mentoring and guiding the wrestlers since a decade.

Krishna Jettappa’s last rites were held at the foot of Chamundi Hill this morning, according to family sources.
