V. N. Prasad & Troupe to present Musical Nite on Sunday

‘Romance of Rhythm King O. P. Nayyar with Legendary Singers’

Omkar Prasad Nayyar [1926- 2007] was a lyricist, composer, director and singer. In 1958, he won the Filmfare Award for his compositions in the film Naya Daur. Known for his love for the rhythm of ‘Tapping of the Horse-Shoes,’ Nayyar won the hearts of millions across the world.

On Sunday, the 8th of April,                V. N. Prasad & Troupe will present popular numbers composed by O. P. Nayyar at a ‘Fund Raising Project’ of Rotary Ivory City Mysuru. Through 1940s to 70s, popular singers Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhonsle dominated Nayyar’s compositions. While the music-lovers around the globe reminisce numbers from popular films like Mere Sanam, Tumsa Nahi Dekha, Kashmir Ki Kali, Howrah Bridge and the like, several more compositions of Nayyar bore excellence to connoisseurs; typically from films Jali Note, E Raat Phir Na Aayegi, Baharen Phir Bhi Ayenge, Sambandh, Mrs& Mr. 55, Ek Musafir Ek Haseena, Baap Re Baap, CID, Sawan Ki Ghata, Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hon, Kismat, etc.

In addition to Rafi and Asha, Kishore, Mukesh, Mahendra Kapur, Shamshad Begum, Geeta scored memorable numbers in more than two decades.

Youngsters Shabbir in the mould of Rafi, Ashwin Prabhu, who featured in ‘Rising Stars of India,’ Ankita and Mamata in the mould of Asha and Jayanthi Bhat, playback singer par excellence, Sahana, commercial singer trained by Prasad and young Rashmi, a recent find, will accompany V. N. Prasad.

Jayaram and Co., from Bengaluru, will play live orchestra. Syed Aftab Ahmad will compere the event.
