Vaadya Padmam title to be conferred on Mysore Brothers

Mysore/Mysuru: Brahma Gana Sabha (BGS), one of the oldest founded Sangeetha Sabhas in Chennai, is doing yeoman service in the propagation and development of fine arts for many decades. It has hosted the upper echelons of Karnatak Musicians on its stage and is also a platform for the newer talented generation.

Their “Padmam” series of titles is awarded annually to eminent artistes from the fields of Music (Gaana Padmam), Dance (Naatya Padmam) and Drama (Naataka Padmam) who have contributed significantly to the art form.

This year’s title Vaadya Padmam is being bestowed upon the renowned violinists and internationally acclaimed maestros Mysore Nagaraj and Dr. Mysore Manjunath.

The violin maestros, popularly known as the Mysore Brothers, are considered top and celebrated violinists. Trained under their father Mahadevappa, a violinist belonging to the musical lineage of Sri Tyagaraja, they have revolutionised the violin playing technique.

Mysore Brothers have performed across the globe, spreading the glory of Indian music.

This award is a feather in their cap and to the cultural heritage of the city of Mysore. The award ceremony is slated for Dec.24 at Rasika Ranjan Auditorium in Chennai at 5.30 pm.

Meenakshi Lekhi, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Minister of State for Culture, will be presenting the awards. The award ceremony will be followed by the Grand Violin Concert by Dr. Manjunath and Nagaraj.

Other awardees of the title are the well-known vocalist duo Ranjani and Gayathri.

Nagaraj and Dr. Manjunath are one of the youngest recipients of prestigious  Sangeeth Natak Academy Award by the Government of India and Rajyotsava award by the Government of Karnataka.  

True Cultural Ambassadors of India, Mysore Brothers continue to preserve and spread the rich cultural heritage of Indian classical music, in all its glory.
