April 20, 2026

Mysore/Mysuru: As part of Basava Jayanti celebrations organised under the joint aegis of Basava Balagagala Okkuta, Kannada and Culture Department, District Administration and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), an exhibition of Vachana Artworks created by veteran artist-cum-sculptor of the city, L. Shivalingappa, was inaugurated at Suchitra Art Gallery in Kalamandira premises yesterday.

The expo features many natural artworks highlighting the philosophies of Vachanas and Basavanna’s principles.

Speaking on the occasion, artist Shivalingappa said, he has been painting Basavanna’s Vachanas for over 50 years using natural art practices.

Pointing out that Basavanna’s messages are very much thoughtful and relevant to the society even today, he said, he hoped the exhibition will help in spreading the philosophies of Basavanna, Akka Mahadevi and other Vachanakaras  to the widest range possible.
