Vachanas were helpful for all sections of society to come to mainstream: Former IPS Officer

September 6, 2020

Mysore/Mysuru: Former IPS Officer B.G. Jyothi Prakash Mirji said that Vachanas helped all sections of people to enter mainstream society.

He was speaking after virtually inaugurating ‘Vachana Nrutya,’ a Dance programme organised by Sharanu Vishwavachana Foundation on Saturday.

Pointing out that Sharanas have written Vachanas through their thoughts and principles, Mirji, a former Bengaluru Police Commissioner, said that people can lead a joyful life if they follow the principles outlined in Vachanas.

Maintaining that Vachana is key for developing a brotherhood and humanitarian mindset, he complimented Sharanu Vishwavachana Foundation for organising the programme virtually for taking the Vachanas to all sections of the society at a time when the entire world is reeling under the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

Sharanu Vishwavachana Foundation Founder Director Roopa Kumaraswamy said that ‘Bhakti Marga’ found its roots in Kannada land during the 12th century when Basavadi Sharanas lived. Noting that the Bhakti tradition was restricted to only a section of the society, she said Sharanas, apart from spreading the message of equality and brotherhood, also motivated the common man to script Vachanas.

Lalanahalli Mutt’s Jayadevi Tayi, Sharanu Vishwa Foundation Founder Dr. Vachana Kumaraswamy, Mysuru District President Anilkumar Vajanthri, P.V. Rudresh, Sudha Mrutyunjayappa and Anitha Nagaraj were present.
