‘Vaidyashri’ awards conferred

July 25, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research-Bengaluru Director Dr. C.N. Manjunath has opined that more hospitals with latest  medical infrastructure is needed rather than the establishment of new Medical Colleges in the State, for better health care and medical services. He was speaking at the National Doctors Day celebration and conferment of ‘Vaidyashri’ award at a programme organised by Anveshana Seva Trust at Veene Seshanna Bhavan in Kuvempunagar here recently.

Pointing out that there are already 65 Medical Colleges in the State, Dr. Manjunath expressed apprehension that opening of more Medical Colleges in the near future may result in closing down of some of them.

Stressing on the need for having more qualified and quality doctors and good infrastructure hospitals, he said that, however, doctors must not forget about the economical condition of the patients.

Maintaining that doctors can be broadly classified under two categories — General and Good, Dr. Manjunath observed that while general doctors cure the ailments, good doctors cure the patient as a whole. Nevertheless, it is important for all doctors to respond to those who come to them seeking relief from their ailments or illness, he added.

Pejawar Mutt Seer Sri Vishwa-prasanna Teertha Swamiji, in his address, said that health is more crucial than all other ‘Bhagyas’. If there is no health, then everything will be a vacuum, he said adding that doctors who cure us of our ailments are in fact ‘Narayana Swaroopis’ (form of Lord Narayana).

MLC Dr. D. Thimmaiah, who also spoke, said that a person who is free of ailments cannot be called as healthy as health is also determined by other factors like Physical, Mental and social stability and well-being of a person. People should not ignore their health as it is vital, he added.
