Mass Feeding Centre, Regional Museum of Natural History closed

Mysuru/Mysore: Following directions from the District Administration not to hold any events where large number of people gather, the Centenary Convocation of University of Mysore (UoM), scheduled to be held this month, has been postponed to May 2020.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Varsity Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar said that as COVID-19 scare is increasing day-by-day and the State Government asking all organisations to take preventive steps, the Centenary Convocation has been postponed.

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was invited for the 100th Convocation which was to be held this month but before the PM could confirm the date, the deadly Coronavirus has forced us to postpone the event. 

Temporary closure of UoM hostels

UoM has decided to temporarily close down its Students’ Hostels in view of COVID-19 scare.

According to a circular issued by the University on Monday, all the students and research scholars staying in the hostels should return to their native places and not return till March 31 as a precautionary measure. 

There are a total of 18 hostels, housing 4,000 students and research scholars.

The circular has cited a Government Order and requested the students to cooperate with the University authorities.

No Mass Feeding  

The Mass Feeding Centre, run by Lions District 317A at the old RMC premises on New Sayyaji Rao Road where more than 50 labourers were being fed lunch daily has been closed, according to the Centre Convenor Ravindranath Tikaare.  

Museum shut

Following the advice from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Regional Museum of Natural History at Siddarthanagar too will be closed to public from Mar. 17 to Mar. 31 or until further notice in public interest, according to G.N. Indresha, Scientist-E and Head of Office.
