Vedike fixes pots atop trees to quench thirst of squirrels, birds

March 19, 2021

Mysuru: To quench the thirst of birds and squirrels, Mysuru Kannada Vedike has started tying earthen pots on trees near Agrahara on Sayyaji Rao Road in city.

This novel initiative has been taken up on behalf of late D.V.Gundappa Memorial Forum across the city. Aim of this programme is to provide water to birds and squirrels during the ongoing summer season.

S.Balakrishna, President of Mysuru Kannada Vedike told SOM that they have tied 20 earthen pots on 10 trees. Cost of each pot is Rs.50. They have tied pot on alternative tree. More than hundreds of birds and squirrels live on this row of trees. The pots have been tied within the reach of people to fill it up daily. Shop-keepers and hotel owners on this street have been requested to fill it up. Apart from this, an activist of Vedike will carry water in a plastic pot on two-wheeler and fill it daily.

“Since each earthen pot costs Rs. 50, our forum cannot afford to buy it for the whole city. We are ready to fix the pots on more trees in city if somebody comes forward to sponsor the pots as it will benefit potters too”,  he added.

He also appealed to the people to put an earthen pot on terrace of houses and fill up water so that birds and squirrels come to drink water especially during extreme heat condition.

Dr. Mahesh, LIC Siddappa, Gurubasappa, Palace Babu, Bogadi Siddegowda and others were present on the occasion.
