Veena recital at Ganabharathi

Ganabharathi has organised a Veena recital by Dr. S.V. Sahana on May 17 at 6 pm in memory of Varada Dongre at Veene Seshanna Bhavana in Kuvempunagar. She will be accompanied by Vidwan Padma Bhushana, Sangeetha Kalanidhi Dr. T.V. Gopalakrishnan on mridanga and Vid. Tripunithura N. Radhakrishnan on ghata.

PROFILES

Dr. Sahana is the disciple of Ganakalabhushana Vid. M.J. Sreenivasa Iyengar. She imbibed from him the nuances of fingering technique and the subtleties of the raga. Then she continued to learn from Vidwan Padma Bhushana T.N. Sheshagopalan. At present, she is learning under Dr. T.V. Gopalakrishnan.

An ‘A graded’ artiste of AIR and Doordarshan, she has performed in the reputed Sabhas of Chennai like Nada Inbam, Mylapore Fine Arts, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha and at all the renowned Sabhas of Bengaluru and Mysuru. She is the recipient of Gottuvadyam Narayana Iyengar Endowment Award of Sri Krishna Gana Sabha and The Best Instrumentalist and Best Musician of Gayana Samaja.

Vid. Dr. Gopalakrishnan is a multi-faceted maestro — a percussionist par excellence, reputed vocalist, a vaggeyakara, a great teacher and a great human being, who is placed on a very high pedestal by people like K.J. Yesudas, Balamurali Krishna, Kadri Gopalnath and Ileyaraja to name a few. He has played with all the great artistes of the world like Nobel Laureate Bob Dylan, George Harrison, John Handi and Ustad Alla Rakkha. He is equally at home in both Karnatak and Hindustani music.

Vid. Tripunithura N. Radhakrishnan is one of the prime disciples of Vid. T.V. Gopalakrishnan. He has accompanied all the stalwarts of Karnatak music.
