Veer Sarvarkar Yuva Balaga seeks action against accused persons
Mysuru: Condemning the recent attack on playwright and former Rangayana Mysuru Director Addanda Cariappa in Bengaluru during the staging of the play ‘Gandhi Hatyeya Satya,’ members of Veer Savarkar Yuva Balaga, Mysuru, staged a protest at Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa Circle (Metropole Circle) here this morning.
Demanding the arrest of those responsible for the incident, the protesters shouted slogans against the Congress party and KPCC President B.K. Hariprasad.
Speaking on the occasion, Rakesh Bhat of Veer Savarkar Yuva Balaga, accusing the Congress party workers of resorting to goondaism, said by smearing ink and attacking on Addanda Cariappa, the accused had curtailed the director’s fundamental right of speech and expression.
Demanding for the continuation of staging of the play ‘Gandhi Hatyeya Satya,’ the protesters urged the Police Department to extend necessary security to Addanda Cariappa.
Former Corporator M.U. Subbaiah, during his speech, alleged that the Congress party workers, unable to digest the truth portrayed in the play, had resorted to goondaism. “Addanda Cariappa, through his plays, has attempted to bring truth before the society. People who are unable accept the facts have been trying to curb the staging of the plays,” he added.
Theatre person Anitha Cariappa added that the play ‘Gandhi Hatyeya Satya’ had been written after a thorough research. “However, a few anti-social elements interrupted the performance in Bengaluru and threw ink on Cariappa,” she added.
Stating that they would ensure the play completes at least 100 shows, the protesters said, instead of questioning on the legal grounds, resorting to attacks and goondaism was not acceptable.
Sandesh, Dayananda Nayak, Chethan, Sanjay, Jayasimha, Manoj, Vishnu, Supreeth, Dr. Chandrashekar, Advocate Gokul Govardhan, Leela Shenoy, Homma Manjunath and others were present.
