Mysuru: The 89th birth anniversary of veteran writer and playwright Beluru Krishnamurthy was celebrated on June 2 at the Kuvempunagar residence of social activist and Sarada Vilas College Kannada lecturer Rajendraprasad Honnalagere under the auspices of Beluru Krishnamurthy Abhimanigala Balaga, Mysuru.
Speaking after being felicitated, Beluru Krishnamurthy regretted that the stage was diminishing due to lack of spectators. He also said that the stage was not getting the right place due to western music and movies and serials.
He opined that at school and college levels, students should be introduced to various types of plays and a separate book should be introduced so that youngsters could develop interest in dramas. He further said that students could develop courage, self-confidence and also leadership qualities by acting in dramas.
Rajendraprasad Honnalagere, Kannada lecturer of Sarada Vilas College, who presided over the function, said that drama was the right medium for providing entertainment to the people. He praised Beluru Krishnamurthy for his stage activeness even at the age of 89 years. He said that Beluru Krishnamurthy has written more than 100 dramas and had immensely contributed for stage development.
Social activist G.P. Harish, Advocate Usha Ramesh, Shantha Beluru Krishnamurthy and Annapurna Kulkarni were present.
Cultural programme was also held on the occasion.
