Mysuru: A man, who had lost Rs. 5.77 lakh to cyber criminals, also made his friends victims of the fraud. The incident took place at Chakkodanahalli village in H.D. Kote taluk of Mysuru district.
Details: Rajesh (name changed), a resident of Chakkodanahalli village, received a message on his WhatsApp on investing money in Fab App to earn more profit and also to complete the given tasks to earn between Rs. 190 and Rs. 5,000 daily.
When he responded to the message, Rajesh’s name was added to a WhatsApp group following which Rajesh deposited Rs. 5,700 and was given 10 tasks to complete. After Rajesh completed the given tasks, Rs. 190 was deposited to his bank account. Rajesh again deposited money and after completing the tasks, Rs. 950 was deposited to his account which he withdrew.
When Rajesh was informed that he would earn more money if he opens many accounts, Rajesh opened seven accounts and deposited a total of Rs. 5,77,094 in phases. When he did not receive the profit and could not withdraw the deposited money, he realised that he has been cheated.
In the meantime, the fraudsters had told him that if he made one person join the app, bonus amount and the amount from the lucky draw will be given to him. The fraudsters had also shared photos making Rajesh believe that it was real. Believing it, Rajesh made three of his friends join the app and the three friends had deposited Rs. 2,75,149, Rs. 2,25,358 and Rs. 25,700 respectively only to lose the money.
A case has been registered at the District CEN Police Station.
