Mysuru: A veena concert has been organised in memory of late Vid. Dr. Vijayaraghavan at Ganabharathi auditorium in Kuvempunagar tomorrow (Oct. 9) at 6 pm.
Vidu. R. Veena will be presenting the veena recital, accompanied by Vid. A. Radhesh on mridanga and Vid. Shamith Gowda on ghata.
Artistes’ profile
Vidu. R. Veena: Inspired by her mother, Vidu. Susheela, Veena began her training in playing the veena at an early age of 8 and with the encouragement of her husband, K.S. Raghavan, she further pursued her learning under the tutelage of Dr. V. Doreswamy Iyengar and Vid. C. Krishnamurthy.
A B-High graded artiste of All India Radio (AIR), she has performed across Karnataka in numerous Sabhas and Tyagaraja Aradhana programmes.
She conducts veena training from her home — both in-person and online — from beginner lessons up to the advanced Vidwat level.
Vid. Radhesh: Having received tutelage under Guru Vid. P.G. Lakshminarayana, he subsequently trained in vocal music under the senior scholar Vid. H.S. Mahalakshmi. He is an ‘A’ grade artiste of AIR. Currently, he is continuing his mridanga learning under Kalaimamani Mannargudi A. Easwaran. Radhesh, who has numerous students, is also an active member of Ganabharathi.
Vid. Shamith Gowda: Having undertaken his initial musical training in percussion (tala vadya) under Vid. H.L. Shivashankar Swamy, he is currently pursuing advanced studies under Ganakalashree Vid. Giridhar Udupa.
He has earned high acclaim for providing fitting percussion accompaniment on numerous reputed stages and in several concerts alongside distinguished maestros such as Vid. Mysore Manjunath, Vid. Mysore A. Chandan Kumar and Vid. Bangalore S. Shankar, among others.
