Recover seven gold mangalya chains worth about Rs. 9.32 lakh

Mysuru/Mysore: Vidyaranyapuram Police have arrested a 39-year-old man on charges of snatching gold mangalya chains in city and have recovered mangalya chains worth Rs. 9.32 lakh besides seizing a scooter used for the crime.

The arrested is Syed Ummar of Sathyanagar in city.

On Dec. 17, 2019, Vidyaranyapuram Police were conducting checking of vehicles near J.P. Nagar link Road, when they found Syed on a white colour Honda Activa scooter (KA-53-R-2109) coming from Nanjangud side in a suspicious manner.

The Cops, who stopped Syed and checked the scooter dickey, found another registration plate bearing number KA-55-R-5623 and stickers of numbers in it. 

The Police then checked his pockets and found a piece of a gold chain following which they took him into custody and brought him to the Police Station for questioning.

During interrogation, the accused is said to have confessed of snatching gold mangalya chains in Vidyaranyapuram, Kuvempunagar and Alanahalli Police limits. 

Based on the information provided by the accused, the Police have recovered seven gold mangalya chains weighing 233 grams and worth Rs. 9.32 lakh from him besides seizing the scooter used for the crime.

Following his arrest, the Police have solved five chain-snatching cases in Vidyaranyapuram and one case each in Kuvempunagar and Alanahalli Police Stations, according to a press release from the PRO, City Police Commissioner’s Office, Mysuru.
