A District-level Inter-School and Inter-College Volleyball Tournament and Fun Fair were organised at Genius PU and Degree College in KBL Layout, Mysuru, yesterday.
MLC Marithibbegowda, who inaugurated the event, recalled the sacrifices of Mahatma Gandhi that brought us freedom. “Today is Martyr’s Day (Jan. 30) and it is our duty to remember Gandhiji,” he said and called upon the students to take part in sports every day as it (physical activities) improves health.
College Secretary Surekha N. Prabhu, who spoke, said that sports not only improves physical fitness but also gives moral values.
Principal H.R. Suresh, who presided over the event, said that co-curricular activities like sports, dance, music, drama, literature and exercises are as important as curricular activities for students’ overall growth.
Trustee Navya and others were present on the occasion.
GSSS School, Siddarthanagar, won the Volleyball Tournament in the School category while Mahajana PU College, Jayala-kshmipuram, bagged winner’s trophy in the College category.
