VVCE, NIE among country’s 47 nodal centres to host grand finale

Smart India Hackathon-2023 from Dec. 19 to Dec. 23

Mysore/Mysuru: The grand finale of Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2023, jointly organised by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development’s Innovative Cell (MIC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), is set to take place from Dec. 19 to Dec. 23. This year’s event will encompass both software and hardware editions, bringing together innovative minds to tackle real-world challenges.

Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE) in Mysuru and The National Institute of Engineering (NIE) Mysuru, have been selected as nodal centres in Karnataka for the grand finale. The National-level event will be centrally inaugurated on Dec. 19 at 9 am by Minister of Human Resource Development, Dharmendra Pradhan. At VVCE, the event will be hosted at H. Kempegowda Indoor Stadium. 

With an impressive participation of 44,617 teams from 2,360 institutions nationwide, including Government and private entities, SIH 2023 has witnessed a substantial contribution from Ministries, Departments, PSUs and private organisations. A total of 3,292 female participant teams have registered for the event, emphasising inclusivity in the hackathon.

The Smart India Hackathon has received 231 problem statements from 51 Departments across 25 Ministries, reflecting a diverse range of challenges for participants to address. Over 12,000 participants, supported by 2,500 mentors, will converge at the assigned nodal centres, including VVCE, to collaboratively work on innovative solutions during the grand finale.

Prof. B. Sadashivegowda, Principal of VVCE, highlighted the essence of hackathons, underlining that it encourages participants to develop or enhance software programs within a short timeframe. The Government has presented a list of pressing problems, challenging student teams to devise solutions using innovative problem-solving techniques. Prof. M.R. Pooja, Head of the Department of Computer Science at VVCE, revealed that 27 teams, comprising over 200 participants, will compete in five problem statements at the VVCE nodal centre. At a press conference in city yesterday, NIE’s Training and Placement Division Officer Harshith Diwakar, Prof. N.S. Srikanth and Prof. Vivek Bharadwaj explained the event to be held at NIE from Dec. 19 to Dec. 23.
