Mysuru: Regional Commissioner (RC) Nitesh Pati has made it clear the water in reservoirs of the region will be used only to meet drinking water requirements. Nitesh Patil, who is also Drinking Water Reservoir Project Committee Chairman, shared this information through a press release.

“The shortage of rainfall in this monsoon season and the resultant decreased water levels in the reservoir have created a shortage of drinking water for humans and cattle. We need to use the available water in the reservoir only for drinking purposes on a priority basis as per the National Water Policy.”

“Indian Meteorology Department has indicated shortage of rainfall because of El-Nino effect and it is also feared that State may face drought in some region. Because of reason, the CM has already appalled farmers to not to depend on  reservoir water for their agricultural crops.”

“Hence, available water in the reservoirs of Mysuru Division, which come under Drinking Water Project Committee jurisdiction — KRS, Kabini, Harangi, Hemavati, Bhadra, Nugu, Taraka, Suvarnavati, Chikkihole, Gundal, Udutorehalla, Vatehole and Yagachi reservoirs — are  reserved to meet only drinking water requirement of humans and cattle.”

Farmers, who are dependent  on reservoir water, should not take up agricultural activities. They should seek advice in this regard from agricultural officers  and plan their agricultural activities,” appealed the Regional Commissioner in his press release.
