Webinar on ‘Writing effective Technical Paper’ held

Mysore/Mysuru: GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women (GSSSIETW), IEEE Student Branch, had organised a webinar on ‘How to write an effective technical paper’ recently by Dr. Saifur Rahman, IEEE President-Elect Candidate 2021, Joseph R. Loring Professor & Director, Advanced Research Institute, Virginia Tech, USA.

Dr. Saifur Rahman gave information about what IEEE editors and reviewers are looking for and also how does the review process work. 

He spoke about how the Paper Structure should be there. He explained each elements of a manuscript like Title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Methodology, Results, Conclusion and References. 

He told the difference between Report and a Technical Paper. He spoke about Types of misconduct consists of Conflict of Interest, Plagiarism, Missing Author Attribution, and then he explained about Ethical publishing which covered the topics like Duplication, Multiple Submissions & Redundancies.

Last topic was Open Access Opportunity for IEEE Authors and Impact Factor is not necessarily enough of a metric. Also, he spoke about other ways of judging a Journal’s value to the engineering community. 

He summarised the webinar by speaking about the Process of Writing the Paper followed by step by step procedure. He also clarified the doubts and questions asked by students. 

Dr. G. Manjula, Associate Professor, Department of ECE, welcomed. Dr. B.D. Parameshachari, IEEE student Branch Counsellor, Professor and Head of Department of TCE, GSSSIETW, proposed a vote of thanks. The event was coordinated by M. Keerthi Kumar, Asst. Professor, Department of TCE, GSSSIETW.
