Weekend Music Concerts at Mysore Vasudevacharya’s house

Mysore/Mysuru: Two Karnatak Classical Music Concerts have been scheduled for this weekend at the heritage house of Mysore Vasudevacharya in city.

Vidu. Uma Ranganathan from Norway will be performing a vocal concert on Saturday (Dec. 10). She will be accompanied by Vid. M.D. Arjun on violin and Vid. M.R. Manjunath on mridanga.

Vidu. Kamala Deepthi from Canada will be giving a vocal concert on Sunday (Dec. 11). She will be accompanied by Vidu. C.V. Shruthi on violin and Vid. Vikram Bharadwaj on mridanga. Both the concerts are scheduled to start at 10.30 am and are open to all music enthusiasts.

ARTISTES’ PROFILE

Vidu. Uma Ranganathan has been trained under the guidance of experts Dr. Radha Venkatachalam, Dr. K. Vageesh and Vidu. Rajarajeshwary Bhat. Presently, she is under Vidu. Gayathri Venkataraghavan, an eminent Karnatak vocalist and teacher and undergoing intense training on Layam under Vid. Erode Nagaraj. Vidu. Uma has performed at The British Parliament: House of Commons, India Habitat Centre (New Delhi) and at many Sabhas across the country. Vidu. Uma has also been trained in Bharatanatyam and has been the Music Director for a few dance productions including ‘Radhe Radhe, Story of Love for the Supreme’, ‘Bhakti Sugandham’, ‘Ramanuja – A Historic Drama.’ She has also been teaching music and has worked with the NGO ‘Music Basti’ in New Delhi, to help children in mental healing through music. Uma’s prolonged interest lies in exploring the therapeutic value of music through research and implicating their findings in rehabilitation and healing of the mentally ill. She is a certified music therapist also. She also has a Masters in Human Resource Management from London School of Economics and Political Science and is currently working as a Strategy Manager in the Energy Industry.

Vidu. Kamala Deepthi, an A-graded artiste of AIR from the age of 23, has been a disciple of Vid. Madurai T.N. Seshagopalan and has also learnt under Dr. Pantula Rama and Pappu Padma Ravishankar. She has performed in the AIR National Programme, in the ‘Spirit of Youth’ and ‘HCL Concert Series’ at The Music Academy, Chennai and in Naada Neerajanam at Tirumala several times. She has performed concerts extensively across India, USA and Canada.

Vid. M.D. Arjun is a student of Vid. H.K. Narasimhamurthy on violin. He is presently undergoing advanced training under Vid. Dr. R.N. Tharanathan. He has performed at various Sabhas in South India and has accompanied many senior vocalists at these places. He is a graded artiste of AIR.

Vid. M.R. Manjunath, a son and disciple of renowned percussionist of yesteryears Vid. M.R. Rajappa, is a B-High graded artiste of AIR. He was shaped in to a performing artiste under the guidance of Vid. P.G. Laksminarayana, Vid. M.A. Krishnamurthy and Vid. Sainath. He has been accompanying frontline artistes on both mridanga and ghata for over two decades now.

Vid. C.V. Shruthi hails from a musical family. She was initiated into violin at the early age of 10 by the renowned artiste Vid. H.K. Narasimhamurthy. She is a ‘B’ grade artiste of Mysuru Akashvani. She has been awarded by Nada Kishora Utsava in 2019 and Nada Maya Sangeethotsava in 2022.

Vid. Vikram Bharadwaj started his practice of mridanga with Vid. PGL and continued with Vid. Ramesh. He is currently practicing with Vid. Tumkur B. Ravishankar. He is a promising young artiste in layavadya.
