Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha, JLB Road, has organised two Karnatak Vocal concerts on June 23 and 24.
On 23rd, Senior Vocalist Sangeetha Vidyanidhi S.Shankar will present the concert at 6 pm. He will be accompanied by Nalina Mohan on violin, B.C.Manjunath on mridanga and G.S.Ramanujan on ghata. This concert is an endowment by Nagarajan Srinivasan in memory of his father late T.V. Srinivasan.
On 24th, an upcoming artiste Vidu. M.A.Shobha from Bengaluru is going to give a vocal concert at 5.30 pm. She will be accompanied by C.N. Srinivasa Murthy on violin, Sai Shiva Lakshmi Keshava on mridanga and R.Srinidhi on ghata. This concert is in memory of late M.R.Venkata Dasappa and Smt.Lakshmamma, endowment by M.V. Ramachandra Rao.
Profile: Vidwan S.Shankar (born 1950) is a senior Karnatak vocalist, Guru and a trendsetter. He started learning music under his mother Rajamma Sastry and also Nagarathna Bai and Vallabham Kalyana Sundaram. A performer for more than four decades, he is an ‘A top’ grade artiste of AIR and Doordarshan. He won the first prize in AIR competition in 1973.
Shankar has performed all over the country and at many places in the US. He has performed jugalbandhi concerts with Hindustani vocalists. He is known for thematic concerts which are educative. He is endowed with a sturdy voice and his rendering of raga is mellifluous and enthralling. His repertoire consists of the compositions of the Trinity, Swathi Thirunal, Patnam Subrahmanya Iyer, Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar, Mysore Vasudevachar, Mayuram Vishwanatha Sastry, Papanasam Sivan, D.V. Gundappa, Padmacharan and Haridasas.His rendering of slokas is unique.
Vidu. M.A.Shobha hails from Mysuru. She started her training in Karnatak classical music at the age of 5 and successfully completed the Junior, Senior and Vidwat exams, under the guidance of Vid. K.R.Venkatesh, Hassan. Later she continued her advanced training under Dr. R.N. Srilatha and at present with Karnataka Kalashree Thirumale Srinivas, Bengaluru. Being a B-High graded artiste at AIR, she has given performances throughout the State. She has won prizes at the State-level Classical Music competitions. She has represented the State at the Youth Festival held at Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, organised by South Central Cultural Zone.
