Weekend music concerts at Vasudevacharya’s residence

Mysore/Mysuru: Sri Mysore Vasudevacharya’s house in the city will be hosting two classical music concerts this weekend. Multi-talented artiste from Kolkata Pandit Sayan Ghosh will be presenting a Sitar concert on Saturday (Oct. 14). He is being accompanied by city’s Pandit Ramesh Dhannur on tabla.

The concert on Sunday (Oct.15) will be a Karnatak vocal recital by young and upcoming artiste Vid. Sajan Sathyan from Kerala. He will be accompanied by Vid. Amogh Nadadur on Violin and Vid. C.N. Keshav Dutt on Mridanga. Both the concerts are scheduled to start at 4 pm and are open to the public.  

Artistes’ Profile: Pandit Sayan Ghosh had training in vocal as a child, primarily in Rabindra Sangeet, from his mother. He had his formal Sitar training under Ganesh Das, a renowned Sitarist of the famous ‘Imdadkhani Gharana’.  He was groomed into the very famous Etawah – Imdadkhani Gharana of Baaj, which enhances Gayaki anga (Vocative rendering of Sitar playing).

Sayan performs regularly in Baithaks and selective events. He contributes to music projects as an original composer as well as player on a regular basis.

He has collaborated with many musicians as well as singers. He is a guest Faculty at Ghulam Abbas Khan Academy for their Music Appreciation Courses named Art of Listening. He has arranged and played sitar for many Albums.

A renowned teacher, today Sayan has students around the world and is teaching ‘Tagore on Sitar’, which is his own initiative. Sayan is also into instrument construction and offers his designed Sitars for sale around the world. He is also a creative Bengali poet and a lyrics writer.

Senior percussionist Pandit Dhannur is a disciple of the legendary musician – teacher Pandit Puttaraj Gawai. He has accompanied his teacher and a number of other renowned artistes in concerts. He teaches at Swara Sankula School of Music and also at the Music University in Mysuru. He is a recipient of many honours and awards.

Vid. Sajan Sathyan hails from Pettah in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He is an M.E. in Communication Systems and is working as a renewable energy consultant. He started learning Karnatak vocal under Vellayani G. Asok Kumar and is a proud 2nd generation disciple of the illustrious singer Neyyattinkara  Vasudevan. He had advanced training under Parvathipuram Padmanabha Iyer  and under Adoor P. Sudarsanan.

Vid. Sajan has learnt  mridanga from Nanjil A.R. Arul. He has performed at many prestigious sabhas in South India and abroad. He performs as both a vocalist and a percussionist (mridanga, kanjira and konnakol) at AIR Thiruvananthapuram.

Violinist Amogh Nadadur has been under the tutelage of Vid. H.K. Narasimha Murthy. He has an experience of over 400 concerts, performing at many places over South India. Amogh is also a software developer working for Tata Consultancy Services.

Vid. Keshav Dutt has learnt mridanga under renowned Vidwans P.G. Lakshminarayana, V.S. Ramesh and Tumakuru B. Ravishankar. He has performed at many prestigious sabhas over the State. Vid. Keshava also plays flute, having been a student of his father Vid. C.A. Nagaraj. An MBA degree holder, he works for an MNC in Mysuru.
