October 22, 2026

Sugreeva is the heaviest at 6,105 kgs

Mysuru: All 13 Dasara elephants underwent weight checks this morning, a day after completing the Jumboo Savari procession.

The elephants were led from the Mysore Palace to the Sairam & Co. weighbridge on Dhanvanthri Road for the checks.

The first batch of nine elephants was weighed on Aug. 30, while the second batch of three was weighed on Sept. 15. Former Captain Abhimanyu, who arrived in Mysuru on Oct. 5, was weighed separately.

The weights recorded today were: Abhimanyu – 5,585 kg; Prashantha – 5,425 kg (previously 5,205 kg); Sugreeva – 6,105 kg (5,850 kg); Srikanta – 6,040 kg (5,790 kg); Ekalavya – 5,915 kg (5,600 kg); Mahendra – 5,620 kg (5,490 kg); Dhananjaya – 5,570 kg (5,530 kg); Gopi – 5,415 kg (5,170 kg); Srirama – 5,150 kg (4,820 kg); Lakshmi – 4,010 kg (3,990 kg); Chaitra – 3,520 kg (3,295 kg); Roopa – 3,290 kg (3,260 kg); and Kaveri – 3,285 kg (3,075 kg).

Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Dr. I.B. Prabhu Gowda said Prashantha had successfully carried the Golden Howdah for the first time during yesterday’s Jumboo Savari, bringing the 11-day Dasara festivities to a close.

He said all the elephants were healthy and had been well cared for. Prashantha, he added, was gentle and had received adequate training. The DCF also thanked everyone involved in the successful conduct of the procession.

Elephants to return to camps today

Dr. Prabhu Gowda said the return of all 13 elephants to their respective camps had been decided at the Dasara High Power Committee meeting.

“Usually, the Dasara elephants are allowed to rest for a day after Jumboo Savari. Since tomorrow is Friday, they will be sent to their respective camps today itself,” he said.

After the weighing, the elephants were led back to the Palace. Mahouts, kavadis, elephant caretakers and Forest Department staff were seen preparing them for the journey back to their camps.
