When Expressway Helpline 1033 came to my rescue

July 26, 2023

Sir,

I am writing to share my recent experience of availing the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) emergency service number ‘1033’ on the Mysuru-Bengaluru Expressway, an incident that left a lasting impression on my wife and me.

On the evening of Saturday, July 22, 2023, while driving back to Mysuru in our VW Jetta, we encountered an unfortunate situation at the entrance of the Mandya stretch of the 10-lane Expressway.

Around 6.30 pm, one of our rear wheels suffered a puncture, leaving us stranded and unable to drive any further. As the daylight started to fade and with mounting concern, I promptly called the ‘1033’ helpline, hoping for assistance.

To our pleasant surprise, help arrived at the scene in a remarkably short span of approximately 35 minutes. The response time was impressive, considering the circumstances, and the service provided was both efficient and professional.

What touched us deeply was the courteous demeanour of the esteemed members of the emergency team. Having traversed these roads for over four decades, I had never encountered such a commendable level of assistance during an emergency.

The timely intervention by the ‘1033’ helpline team was a true life-saver, considering the rapidly darkening conditions that evening.

My wife and I are immensely grateful to NHAI for establishing and maintaining such an excellent emergency service facility.

I believe it is crucial for all commuters to be aware of the existence of the ‘1033’ helpline to avail of such prompt assistance when needed.

This initiative is a testament to the dedication and foresight of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and his team at NHAI, who have worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and convenience of the road users.
