Mahendra, Dhananjaya, Sugreeva, Ekalavya, Prashantha in race

Mysuru: With less than a month left for the grand Vijayadashami procession (Jumboo Savari), discussion is on to select Abhimanyu’s successor to carry the Golden Howdah on Raja Marga.

According to DCF (Wildlife) I.B. Prabhugowda, five elephants — Mahendra, Dhananjaya, Sugreeva, Ekalavya and Prashantha — who have experience of taking part in the Dasara, are in race to be named as the successor of Abhimanyu.

“All five elephants have been taking part in the rehearsals for the past two years. The elephants have passed the initial test during the first two phases. Currently, we have started the third phase of the rehearsal with wooden howdah mounted on Mahendra,” added.
