Mandya: A woman was killed on the spot, while her husband sustained serious injuries, when a KSRTC Volvo bus rammed into the scooter they were riding at Srirangapatna on Monday.

While the deceased has been identified as Puttasiddamma (56), her seriously injured husband has been identified as Mariyaiah (60), residents of Kalastawadi in Mysuru taluk.

Monday being Sankranti festival, the duo were proceeding to Sriranganatha Temple in Srirangapatna to witness Lakshadeepotsava on the scooter at about 8.45 pm, when a KSRTC Volvo bus hit the scooter from behind near Srirangapatna Check Post resulting in Puttasiddamma falling down from the scooter and the bus running over her besides her husband sustaining serious injuries.

After the mishap, the bus driver did not bother to stop the bus but drove away.

The bus was intercepted by the Police at Mandya and the driver was taken into custody,    it is learnt.

Srirangapatna Town Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.
