Mysuru: A wild elephant, which was trying to pass underneath a railway barricade and got stuck, was rescued by the Forest Department staff at Maddur Forest limits.
Two wild elephants tried to cross over the railway barricade to go to the agri field on the other side. While one elephant managed to cross over the barricade, the other tried to pass under the barricade but got stuck and began to struggle.
Meanwhile, Bandipur Tiger Reserve staff, who were on their regular patrolling to look out for snares and traps, found the elephant struggling under the barricade. Though they knew that the wild elephant would pose danger to them once freed, they still went forward to rescue the wild elephant. They managed to remove one side of the barricade and rescued the wild elephant aged about 45 years.
Bandipur Tiger Reserve Director Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Prabhakaran said that rescuing and protecting wild animals is our responsibility. He lauded the staff for rescuing the wild jumbo by putting their lives at risk.
