Winners of Illumination-2019 Inter-College Literary Fest

Mysuru: Hindustan First Grade College (HFGC), J.P. Nagar, Mysuru, had organised Illumination-2019, an Inter-Collegiate Literary Fest recently. 

The competition was organised with an objective of identifying and nurturing various talents in students. A platform was provided to the students to showcase the skills in various competitions like Essay Writing, Debate, Turn Coat and Pencil Sketch.

In all, 80 students from various colleges in Mysuru like St. Philomena’s College, St. Joseph’s College, Sree Cauvery First Grade College, Sree Cauvery PU College, MMK & SDM Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Teresian College for Women, Maharani’s College, NIE First Grade College and Genius PU College took part in the competition.

Abel Mathew Prasad, Special Officer, Wing Commander Pandurangi, Dr. C.J. Priya, Principal and S. Nagasri, Programme Convenor, inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. 

Nayaz Ahmed of BBA (AM) was the Master of Ceremony. Damodara of I B.Com rendered invocation. Mohammed Shakeel of III B.Com welcomed the gathering.

Anjum Rizve with MFA from CAVA College was invited as external judge and R. Dhanalakshmi, Librarian of HFGC, was the internal judge for pencil sketch competition. A total of 19 students participated in the competition. The theme of the competition was announced on the spot as ‘Natural Calamity.’ The students were given one hour to complete the task.

Examination is mere judging of the memory not the knowledge was the topic for the Debate competition. In all, 16 students from various colleges took part in the competition. Shabeena Ameen, Assistant Professor of English, Teresian College, was invited as the external judge. K.V. Savitha, Assistant Professor of Computer Science, HFGC, was the internal judge for the competition. 

A total of 30 students competed in Essay Competition. ‘Technology: A boon as well as a bane for students’ was the topic of the essay competition. The students were given 1 hour to write an essay on the given topic. The scripts were evaluated by R.D. Sukshma, Assistant Professor of Computer Science, Lakshmikanth, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, C. Bhagyalakshmi, Assistant Professor, Department of  Commerce & Management and S. Nagasri, Assistant Professor, Department of English.

A total of 15 students participated in Turn Coat competition. R. Aravind, Assistant Professor of English, Vidyavardhaka First Grade College, was invited as the external judge. Nayan Hashmi. Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce & Management, was the internal judge.

The valedictory session was held at Visveswarayya Hall. The winners of the competition were given cash prize (1st prize – Rs.1,500, 2nd prize – 1,000 and 3rd prize – Rs.500) and certificate.

Debate: 1st – Akash Maniyar,  St. Philomena’s College, Mysuru; 2nd – Afnaan Pasha, Genius PU College, Mysuru; 3rd – Amogh Vinyas, St. Philomena’s College, Mysuru.

Essay Writing: 1st – Amogh Vinyas, St. Philomena’s College, Mysuru; 2nd – B. Swathi, Sree Cauvery College, Mysuru; 3rd – M. Yuvraj Singh, Genius PU College, Mysuru.

Turn Coat: 1st – Afnaan Pasha, Genius PU College, Mysuru; 2nd – Akash Maniyar, St. Philomena’s College, Mysuru; 3rd – Amogh Vinyas, St. Philomena’s College, Mysuru. D. Harini of II B.Com was the Master of the Ceremony and Megha of II BCA proposed a vote of thanks, according to a press release.
