Winners of MCICT Shuttle Badminton Tournament

The Department of Physical Education, University of Mysore (UoM) and Teresian College, Mysuru, in association with Prof. Basavalingu and his family, had organised the MCICT Men and Women Badminton Tournament recently.

Prof. Basavalingu sponsored around Rs. 3 lakh Silver Rolling Trophy in memory of his mother Kalyanamma and his father,  late Basavaraju, to the MCICT Men and Women Badminton Tournament. The Tournament was held at PGSC, Manasagangothri Indoor Hall, UoM.

Prof. N.K. Lokanath, Vice- Chancellor, UoM, inaugurated the men’s and women’s MCICT Badminton Tournament by servicing the shuttle in the presence of Prof. Basavalingu, retired Professor, DoS in Earth Science, UoM, Kumar, former Kho-Kho player, Mysuru, Anthony Moses, Physical Education Director, Teresian College & Convener, MCICT, Mysuru and Dr. P. Krishnaiah, Deputy Director, Department of Physical Education, UoM.

Vidyavardhaka Engineering College men’s team, which won first prize Shuttle Badminton Tournament, is seen with the dignitaries during the prize distribution ceremony.

MLA K. Harishgowda was the chief guest. Prof. C. Venkatesh, Director, Department of Physical Education, UoM, presided over the programme.

Prof. Sadashiv, Department of Chemistry, PGSC, Manasagangothri, UoM, welcomed the gathering. Anthony Moses coordinated the programme. Prof. Srinivas, Department of Microbiology, PGSC, Manasagangothri, UoM, proposed a vote of thanks.

Eleven women and 19 men took part in this Tournament.

Results (Men’s Section)

1st Semi-final: Vidyavardhaka Engineering College, Mysuru, beat Sapient College, Mysuru, by 3-2.   

2nd Semi-final: JSS Science and Technology University, Mysuru, beat SBRR MFGC, Mysuru, by 3-0.

Final: Vidyavardhaka Engineering College beat JSS Science and Technology University by 3-2. 

Women’s Section

1st Semi-final: MICA College, Mysuru, beat PGSC, Manasagangothri, Mysuru, by 2-0.

2nd Semi-final: Sapient College, Mysuru, beat GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women (GSSSIETW), Mysuru, by 2-0.

Final: Sapient College beat MICA College by 2-0.

Prizes were distributed during the valedictory held on Mar. 5 at PGSC, Manasagangothri, UoM, Shuttle Badminton Indoor Hall, Mysuru, by Prof. M. Chandrakumar, retired Professor, DoS in Physical Education & Sports Science, UoM.
