Mysuru: In a reported incident, a woman has cheated a man whom she got introduced through Facebook, to the tune of lakhs of rupees on the promise of marriage.

Twenty six-year-old Amar Singh of Rajasthan is the one who has lost Rs. 10.29 lakh in cash and 16 gm gold jewellery.

Amar Singh, along with his cousin Ashok, was engaged in utensils business at Nanjangud for the past three-and-a-half years. Two years ago, Amar Singh got introduced to one Vijayaranjini through Facebook, when the two exchanged their mobile phone numbers and began to converse, during which Vijayaranjini told Amar Singh that she was a divorcee and stayed at her father’s house. Vijayaranjini told Amar Singh that she desired to marry him, following which the two met at a park in Bogadi, when Vijayaranjini sought money from him saying that her father was ill.

Between 2021 and Jan. 16, 2023, Vijayaranjini received a total of Rs. 10,29,403 on different days from Amar Singh, even as she continued to keep her promise of marrying him. Vijayaranjini also succeeded in getting a 12.45 gm gold bracelet and 3.68 gm ear drops from him.

Later, Vijayaranjini, who called Amar Singh on Jan. 30, 2023, asked him to come to Mysuru for getting married at a temple. As told, Amar Singh came to Mysuru on Jan. 30 and waited for hours near  temple. But as Vijayaranjini did not turn up, he called Vijayaranjini when she told him that she was unwell and they could get married on another date.

Subsequently, Amar Singh called Vijayaranjini again, when she threatened him of dire consequences if he persisted on marrying her and also blocked her Facebook chat with him.

Feeling cheated, Amar Singh lodged a complaint at CEN Police Station at Mysuru. The Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.
