Nanjangud: A 49-year-old woman, who had lost her son three months ago, was allegedly burnt alive.

Biligere Police, suspecting that the woman may have been murdered, have taken the deceased woman’s daughter-in-law and her parents into custody for questioning.

The deceased woman has been identified as Sanna Boramma, a resident of Salundi (Hariharapura) village in Nanjangud taluk while those in Police custody are Boramma’s daughter-in-law Lakshmi and her parents Nanjundegowda and Shivamma.

Three months ago Boramma’s son Revanna had died of electrocution and Lakshmi along with her parents were staying with Boramma.

On Monday morning, when there was a fire in the house Lakshmi ran out of the house screaming for help. Neighbours tried to douse the fire but in vain. Finally, Fire and Emergency Services personnel arrived at the spot and extinguished the fire. But Sanna Boramma, who was inside the house, was burnt alive by then.

During preliminary investigation, Lakshmi had not said a word to the Police about her mother-in-law Sanna Boramma was inside the house when the fire broke out, which gave rise to suspicion.

As Boramma’s mother Chikkathayamma lodged a complaint against Lakshmi and her parents, alleging that they had murdered her daughter, Biligere Police, who registered a case, have taken Lakshmi, Nanjundegowda and Shivamma into their custody for interrogation.
