She crushed a crude bomb after mistaking it for an areca nut
Mysuru, July 27 (BCT)- A 55-year-old woman sustained serious injuries after a crude bomb, planted as a wild boar trap, exploded near her house in Huyilalu village of Hunsur taluk.
The victim, identified as Kamalamma, wife of Lokesh, reportedly mistook the explosive for an areca nut and attempted to crush it with a stone, triggering the blast.
The incident occurred on Friday when Kamalamma was returning home from her farm. The explosion caused severe injuries to her face, hands and abdomen. Farmers in the area are known to place crude bombs in fields to deter wild boars, local sources said.
Alerted by the loud blast, villagers rushed to the spot and shifted Kamalamma to K.R. Nagar Taluk Hospital for first aid. She was later referred to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru for advanced treatment.
The impact of the explosion also damaged nearby household items and left the village in shock. Locals said Kamalamma frequently visited the plantation house to feed her pet cat.
Following the incident, the bomb squad, fingerprint experts and forensic teams inspected the site. SP N. Vishnuvardhana and Inspector Santosh Kashyap also visited the spot and gathered details from residents.
