April 12, 2024

Hanur: A 36-year-old woman, who was climbing Male Mahadeshwara Hill (M.M. Hills) on foot, was killed when a wild elephant attacked her on Tuesday night.

The deceased woman is Lakshmi, a resident of Honaganahalli village in Malavalli taluk.

Lakshmi, along with her son Chirag and relatives Chikkathayamma, Manu, Prasanna, Mahadevu and Puttaraju had come from Honaganahalli to the Hill in a goods vehicle.

After taking rest at Talabetta for some time, they were supposed to go to the Hill temple in the goods vehicle. But about 10 to 15 people decided to walk to the Hill top and Lakshmi and her son also joined them.

While they were walking in the forest area, a wild elephant suddenly appeared, scaring the people, who ran helter-skelter. Lakshmi, who too began to run, was trampled to death.

M.M. Hills Police have registered a case.
