Mysuru: The city’s First Additional CJM Court has sentenced a woman to one year imprisonment for cheating her friend by borrowing a gold chain and failing to return it back. The woman who was sentenced is Jayalakshmi alias Jayalakshammani, a resident of Nanjangud.
On Nov.28, 2016, Jayalakshmi borrowed a 50 grams gold chain from her friend Rathnamma, a resident of Gowrishankar Nagar in Mysuru to attend a function.
Jayalakshmi, who went back to Nanjangud after borrowing the gold chain from Rathnamma, pledged the gold chain for Rs.99,999 at a private finance company and had used the money.
Meanwhile, when Rathnamma began to ask Jayalakshmi to return the chain, Jayalakshmi used to give reasons and used to postpone the days. Suspecting something fishy, Rathnamma lodged a complaint at K.R. Police Station.
K.R. Police, who registered a cheating case against Jayalakshmi, had submitted a charge-sheet against Jayalakshmi to the Court.
Judge Yashwanth Kumar, who took up the case, heard the arguments from both sides, found the accused guilty of the crime and sentenced her to one year jail term and imposed a fine of Rs.10,000. Assistant Public Prosecutor K.M.C. Shivashankaramurthy argued on behalf of the Government.
