Woman strangles drunk husband to death

October 27, 2026

Hunsur: A woman allegedly strangling her drunk husband to death has been reported from Maruthi Layout in the town on Saturday. The deceased is Manjunath (37), a mason, who was residing with his second wife Prema.

A native of Hosur village near Chunchanakatte in Saligrama taluk, Manjunath had married Sudha of Chunchanakatte and the couple have two children. After leaving Sudha, Manjunath had married Prema of Bengaluru and both were residing in Hunsur.

It is learnt that Manjunath was addicted to liquor and used to come home drunk and pick up fights with Prema.

On Saturday too, Manjunath had come home fully drunk and fought with Prema during which she had allegedly assaulted him. Manjunath had informed his mother Savithramma about his wife assaulting him.

Later, when Manjunath was sleeping, Prema strangled him to death with the help of the chain made of beads which he was wearing. She later called Savithramma over the phone and told her that her son was unconscious and unresponsive.

Savithramma then rushed to her son’s house and with the help of neighbours shifted her son to the General Hospital where the doctors who examined him told her that he was dead.

Sensing something fishy, Savithramma lodged a complaint at Hunsur Town Police Station, where a case was registered.

Inspector Shivamadaiah took Prema into custody and questioned her during which she spilled the beans and confessed to the crime. She was then arrested and was remanded to Judicial Custody.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Mallikarjun Baladandi, Dy.SP Ravi, Inspector Shivamadaiah and staff visited the crime spot and conducted an inspection.
