H.D. Kote Police register case against five persons

H.D. Kote: A woman has allegedly sold her newborn girl baby to a couple in Channapatna village in Nanjangud taluk through a mediator and H.D. Kote Police have registered a case against five persons in this regard.

Following the intervention of officials from the Child Helpline and Woman and Child Development Department, the baby has been reunited with her mother.

The woman, a resident of Vishwanath Colony in H.D. Kote town had delivered a baby girl on Apr. 5 at H.D. Kote Government Hospital. But the very next day (Apr. 6), the mother, gave away the baby girl to a woman, said to be a mediator near H.D. Kote Bus Stand and the woman (mediator) is said to have sold the baby girl to a couple from Channapatna village in Nanjangud taluk.

Meanwhile, someone, who had information about the baby girl being sold to a couple, called the officials of the Child Helpline and Woman and Child Development Department and informed them about it, following which,  the officials visited H.D. Kote Hospital and the house of the woman in Vishwanath Colony and conducted an enquiry.

During the enquiry, the parents of the newborn baby girl informed the officials that they have four children (two boys and two girls) and had hence given the baby girl through the mediator for adoption to childless couple and had not sold the baby. Later, the officials through the mediator called the couple from Channapatna village over the phone who had received the baby girl.

The couple informed the officials that they had not bought the baby, but have adopted the baby. Meanwhile, Child Helpline Taluk Director Prabhu, told the couple to immediately bring back the baby failing which a complaint would be lodged against them with the Police.

Following the warning, the couple brought the baby girl from Channapatna village to H.D. Kote on Saturday afternoon and handed over the baby to the mother in the presence of officials.

Based on the complaint, H.D. Kote Police have registered a case against the mediator, parents of the baby girl and the couple who had received the baby.
