Women Congress stages ‘Go Back Governor’ dharna

August 19, 2024

Mysore/Mysuru: Members of the Congress Women’s Wing, beneficiaries of guarantee schemes and Congress workers staged a ‘Go Back Governor’ demonstration in front of Congress Bhavan near city Railway Station here yesterday strongly opposing Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s action of granting sanction for CM Siddaramaiah’s prosecution in connection with MUDA sites scam.

Venting out their anger, the protesters demanded the resignation of Gehlot as he acted in a partisan manner in according sanction for the prosecution of CM.

Addressing the protesters, Guarantee Schemes Implementing Authority Vice-Chairperson  Dr. Pushpa Amarnath accused the Governor of playing politics instead of doing his Constitutional job. Charging the Governor of acting under the behest of the Centre, she wanted the Governor to leave the State.

Alleging that the Governor has played into the hands of the Opposition BJP-JD(S) combine which is playing games to unseat CM Siddaramaiah, Dr. Pushpa said that, however, the Opposition’s plans will not work as the people of the entire State is with the CM and the Congress party.

Maintaining that the BJP and JD(S) do not have any moral authority to seek the resignation of CM, she questioned why the Governor had not acted on complaints against BJP leaders Murugesh Nirani and  Shashikala Jolle and JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy.”

The Governor has acted in undue haste as regards the complaint against the CM, while keeping the plaints against BJP leaders pending despite numerous  reminders. “I want to question the Governor on how much more time he needs to grant sanction for prosecution of BJP leaders against whom complaints are pending for long,” she said adding that Governor must quit.

Women Congress leaders Pushpavalli, Latha Siddashetty, Latha Mohan, Manjula, Rajeshwari, Bhavya, Nagarathna and others took part in the dharna.
