Women employees of Garments factory stage protest

January 9, 2020

Mysuru: Over 2,000 women employees of Sai Garments near Metagalli,  under the aegis of AIUTUC (All India United Trade Union Centre) staged a protest in front of the factory this morning seeking fulfilment of their demands.

The employees sought decent treatment from the Group Captains, minimum wages, EPF and Gratuity, fixing a maximum of 8 hrs of work followed by overtime, not to hold meetings during lunch time, regular medical test, good rest rooms, statutory leave facilities and regular weekly holidays.

The Management representatives, who arrived on the spot, assured to groom the Group Captains to behave properly. They sought a week’s time to address their grievances. The stir was withdrawn but with a warning of intensified resumption if the demands were not addressed within a week. AIUTUC District Secretary Chandrashekar Meti and others were present.
