Mysore/Mysuru: “Women have proved their mettle in every fields and all walks of life,” said Principal District and Sessions Court Judge Suresh K. Vontigodi.
He was speaking after inaugurating Women’s Day celebrations at Maharani’s Arts College on Tuesday, which was jointly organised by Maharani’s Arts College, Senior Students Association, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Mysore Bar Association.
“Earlier, most of the lawyers were men. But today, we can find many women working as advocates. Police Department, which was earlier considered to be dominated by men, now has many female employees serving in various ranks. Taking into consideration the contribution being made to each and every sphere of life in the country, it can be certainly contended that women are no less than men,” he said.
“People, in particular men, need to change their outlook towards women and consider them as equal. Outstanding women achievers who have done great work across many sectors should be recognised and honoured. This would inspire others to embark a new journey in their lives,” he said.
Later, Senior Civil Judge B.P. Devamane, who addressed the gathering, urged women to stand on their own feet and lead their lives with respect and dignity instead of depending on others.
Stating that DLSA is entrusted with providing competent legal services for weaker sections of the society, he suggested women to seek help from DLSA as it provides legal assistance to women free of cost.
On this occasion, Pourakarmikas Nagaratna, Mahadevi, R. Bannamma and Banneramma and senior students of the College were felicitated.
Additional SP P.V. Sneha, Mysore Bar Association President S. Ananda Kumar, Principal B.T. Vijay, Lecturer Manonmani and others were present.
