‘Women hold key to healthy family’

‘Prerana Awards’ conferred on achievers

Mysore/Mysuru: Dr. S.S. Malini, HoD, Genetics and Genomics, University of Mysore, said: “If women at home are healthy, the family will also be safe and healthy.”

She was speaking during the 113th International Women’s Day celebrations organised at Organisation for the Development of People (ODP) at Bannimantap in city recently.

“Women are efficiently handling their responsibilities in the society and at home. Be it any task, they possess special energy to handle them. The women embodied with values like peace, patience, caring nature and humanitarian values should focus on keeping good health. It is the responsibility of all to prevent any feelings of discrimination among men and women. If women make up her mind, she can get rid of any gender-based discrimination in the society,” she said.

Earlier, Inspector Geetha of Police Control Room, who inaugurated the programme, said: “Women are still subjected to atrocities, both at home and society. But still, it is a good sign that women are achieving in different fields, overcoming the challenges. Women should courageously face the odds and the Police Department is always ready to protect them.  They can air their grievances on toll-free number 112.”

President of ODP Mysuru Dr. Bernard Moras, who is also the Apostolic Administrator of Mysore Diocese, said: “Women have been enjoying special treatment since earlier and hence they should be treated with humility. Women should derive inspiration from achievers in several                             other fields.”

Achievers from diverse fields were presented ‘Prerana Awards’ on the occasion. The recipients of the award are as follows: Mysuru taluk’s Shalini from Indira Colony and Bhavani from Gundurao Nagar, Kodagu district’s Safiya from Bettada Kadu and K.V. Sujitha from Maldare, Virajpet taluk.

As many as 1,000 saplings were distributed to women on the occasion. Mysore Diocese Priest Alfred John Mendonca, Director of ODP Alex Prashanth Sequeira, President of Mahilodaya Mahila Okkuta Lathamani, Pushpa,  M. Vani and others were present.
