Work at Sub-Registrar Offices disrupted for want of computer peripherals

Mysuru:  The public services rendered at Sub-Registrar offices in the city have been disrupted due to non-supply of essential stationeries and computer peripherals, which has caused a lot of inconvenience to the public.

The situation may deteriorate further from tomorrow (April 22) as there are no immediate signs of renewal of contract with HCL Infosystems, the system provider to    Sub-Registrar offices.

The Department of Stamps and Registration had entered into a contract with HCL Infosystems for offering computer registration services at Sub-Registrar offices which ended in February, 2019, following which the contract was extended till Mar.31. But as the contract was not renewed further, the service provider stopped the services, which gave rise to problems in registration services since the beginning of April.

However, the Department ordered purchase of paper, cartridge and other computer peripherals at the local level, which lasted for 20 days. But with stocks lasting out, the Department, finding no other way, has put up a notice in Sub-Registrar offices which says that the contract with HCL Infosystems for Computer Registration Services has ended on Mar.31, 2019, following which the service provider has halted supplies of paper, cartridges and other computer peripherals. The company has also withdrawn the services of computer operators serving at the offices and as such there will be registrations from April 22. The Department has also sought the co-operation of public in this regard. This is also the case in all other Sub-Registrar offices in the State.

Meanwhile, sources said that as the Lok Sabha Polls are underway, the Department has not been able to invite fresh tenders. Also, the Department is in a dilemma, whether to invite fresh tenders or to purchase the stationeries itself at the local level.

Upset over the Government’s apathy, the members of the public are an inconvenienced lot, as all registration services will come to a standstill from tomorrow, with the Department putting up a public notice in Sub-Registrar offices. This has left the public wondering when the services would be restored.
