Mysuru, Oct. 24 – Finally, the works on the construction of much-awaited Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste Treatment Plant at Sathagalli in the outskirts of the city is set to begin shortly.

In the latest development, the work order for establishing C&D Waste Treatment Plant at an estimated cost of Rs. 10 crore, has been issued by Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and the 10-acre land identified at Hanchya-Sathagalli ‘A’ Zone opposite the KSRTC Bus Depot, has been covered with a fence, to safeguard the boundary.

“The decision to set up a C&D plant aims to streamline disposal process and curb indiscriminate dumping in unauthorised areas such as Outer Ring Road (ORR) and various parts of the city. The plan involves extracting bricks, stones and metals from the construction waste for the purpose of reuse,” said MCC Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif.

The C&D plant will be constructed under Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model. The machineries will be procured through tender and the cement bricks extracted from the construction waste will be shredded and supplied to granite companies. The stones will be reduced into smaller sizes and will be sold, while the sand procured through waste will be supplied as per demand.

“Keeping in view the visual beauty of the city, it is essential to set up C&D plant. With this, the biggest issue will be solved. The waste dumped indiscriminately on ORR is marring the beauty of the city and also causing an increase in plume of dust. To regulate all these, C&D plant is the only solution,” explained Asif.

Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA, now Mysuru Development Authority – MDA), had allotted the land in the year 2021 for a period of 30 years, with the sole intention of setting up a C&D plant. However, some of the locals had created a hurdle, which now stands almost cleared to facilitate the construction works of the plant at the earliest, said Asif.
