Workshop on ‘New trends in Biotechnological approach for life sustenance’

Mysuru: A Science Academies Lecture Workshop on ‘New trends in Biotechnological Approach for life sustenance’ was organised by the Department of Studies in Biotechnology, Microbiology & Biochemistry, PBMMEC Post Graduate Wing of SBRR Mahajana First Grade College, Metagalli, KRS Road, in collaboration with Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru, National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad and Indian  National Science Academy, New Delhi, recently.

The workshop was scheduled with eight technical sessions over a span of two days, the 1st and 3rd  technical sessions was delivered by Dr. Ganesh Nagaraju, Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), Bengaluru, who spoke on  ‘DNA repair in Health and Disease and Mechanism of DNA repair.’

The 2nd and the 4th technical session was conducted by Dr. Dipshikha Chakravortty, Professor at the Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology, IISc., Bengaluru, on the topic entitled ‘Biomedical applications of shock waves & Fascinating world of Microbes.’

Raveesha, Professor, Department of Botany, Manasagangothri, University of Mysore, Prof. S.R. Ramesh, CEO, MES, Dr. Jyoti Bala Chauhan, Head, DoS in Biotechnology, Microbiology & Biochemistry, Dr. B. Kiran, Organising Secretary, DoS in Biotechnology, Microbiology and Biochemistry, PBMMPG wing, Mysuru.

The second day of the workshop sessions were by Dr. K. Kemparaju, Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Manasagangothri, University of Mysore, who spoke on “NETOsis & Snake venoms and its action” followed by technical session by Dr. K.A. Raveesha, Professor, Department of Botany, Manasagangotri, University of Mysore, Mysore who delivered his talk on  ‘Antimicrobials of Plant origin: Prospects and Problems & Bio-fertilizers for crop productivity’ respectively.

With an initiative to improve knowledge and awareness in biotechnology and Bio-safety and its importance among students particularly the younger generation with lot of ambitions in science field, the Department conceptualized this idea to create awareness and promote the youngsters who want to pursue their higher education and promote  career aspects in   Bioscience.

In all, 160 participants including the postgraduate students, researchers and faculty members of different departments attended the workshop.
