Workshop on “Complementary Therapies in Autism Spectrum Disorder” at UoM on Feb. 15

Mysore/Mysuru: The Department of Studies in Food Science and Nutrition, University of Mysore (UoM), has organised a workshop on “Complementary Therapies in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Interplay between Diet and Gut Microbiota” on Feb. 15 at IOE Auditorium, Vijnana Bhavan, Manasagangothri.

Students of Nutrition & Dietetics, Research Scholars, Parents, Caretakers of ASD, Nutritionists, Dietitians, Clinicians and health care professionals may attend the event. The following Resource Persons will address the workshop:

Dr. Nawab Akhthar Khan, Associate Professor, Clinical Psychology Department, JSS Hospital, Mysuru (Topic: Overview on Autism); Dr. Vimal Karani, Associate Professor, University of Reading, UK (Gut microbiome and its implications); Dr. Asna Urooj, Professor, University of Mysore (Nutrition therapy in Autism); Kumar Sankaran, CEO, Leucine Bio Rich Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru (Link between Gut Microbiome & Autism); Dr. Praveen Jacob, Assistant Professor, K.S. Medical College, Mangalore (Non-Pharmacological Approaches in the Treatment of Autism); Ida Menezes, Child Development expert, Mysuru (Case Presentations).

The workshop is based on the Department’s studies which have shown variations in dietary intake leading to nutrient imbalance and micro-nutrient deficiencies which impacts the behavioural episodes, growth and development. There is no registration fee for parents, however, they must confirm participation before Feb. 5.
