Namma Nadige Arogyadege trekking tomorrow
Mysore/Mysuru: “Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI), Mysuru Chapter, in association with Peoples Association for Geriatric Empowerment, Sarada Vilas College of Pharmacy and Rotary Mysore, has jointly organised a programme to observe World Alzheimer’s Month (WAM)-2022 to create awareness about the disease among people,” said Rotary Mysore, Zone-7 President Rtn. K. Subramanya Rao.
He was speaking after launching WAM-2022 programme at Pathrakarthara Bhavan here on Friday. “WAM-2022 is organised with the theme ‘Know Dementia-Know Alzheimer’s.’ Alzheimer disease commonly affects older people, but nowadays early-onset Alzheimer disease is affecting people in their 30s also. It is caused by abnormal brain tissue changes,” he said.
“WAM is observed in the month of September across the world to sensitize the public, caregivers on how to take care of those who are suffering from the disease and what medication must be given to them. In recent days, as the usage of technology has increased, people are engaging themselves in social media platforms and are neglecting such serious issues. These practices must be reduced and must look after their health,” Rao added.
WAM-2022 events: Namma Nadige Arogyadege trekking to Chamundi Hill on Sept. 13 at 9.30 am; Symposium on ‘We are our Memories’ and memory screening for elderly at Rotary Mysore on JLB Road on Sept. 15 at 10 am; ‘Samvadha with Celebrity’, sensitising media on various facets of Dementia as a family problem, financial burden, legal hurdle etc, and personal stories from care-takers and family members, on Sept. 19; ‘Memory Walk’ from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple on Sept. 21 at 9 am; ‘Care giving, challenges and successes,’ a workshop for care-givers at JSS Hospital on Sept. 27 at 9 am; ‘Yoga for memory: Learning basic Yogasanas for memory improvement’ valedictory at Government Yoga and Naturopathy College, Mysuru, on Sept. 28 at 11 am.
