World Pharmacists Day celebrated

Theme: Safe and effective medicines for all

Mysuru: Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), Mysuru Division, celebrated World Pharmacists Day at Rajendra auditorium of JSS College of Pharmacy, Shivarathreeshwaranagar, here on Sept. 25.

Dr. Raman Dang, former Registrar, Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DIPSAR)  and presently General Secretary, APTI, Bengaluru, in his inaugural speech mentioned that DIPSAR was the first pharmacy based University. He urged pharmacists to develop skills in health care system and to do pictograms, street plays so that common man can understand dos and don’ts relating to medicines.

Prof. K. Byrappa, Pro-Vice- Chancellor and Dean of Research, Adichunchanagiri University, BG Nagara, emphasised the role of pharmacists in health care system. A Pharmacist plays an important role in drug discovery, nanotechnology, drug development, clinical research, community medicine and pharmaceutical marketing, he said and added since, Science is interdisciplinary pharmacists must gear up to understand different aspects of drugs right from their discovery to delivery to patients. 

Dr. Md. Salahuddin, Vice- President, IPA, Mysuru branch and Dr. Hanumanthachar Joshi, Principal, Sarada Vilas College of Pharmacy, spoke on pharmacist’s role in health care system. 

Pharma industry is very huge and it’s growing to be a leader in deciding economy, they said and thanked Dr. B. Suresh for switching many regulations from PCI time to time to uplift the pharmacist profession.

Manjunatha from Kavery College of Pharmacy, Mysuru, asked doctors to reduce unnecessary prescriptions.

Prizes distributed

The chief guest distributed prizes for winners of Elocution competition and Tablet Cup cricket tournament played by Karnataka Registered Pharmacists. Runners up were KLE College, Mysuru. The winner of Tablet Cup-2019 was Lakshmi Pharma from Mysuru. Both runners and winners were felicitated with medals and trophy. The winner of staff cricket team led by Dr. K. Mruthyunjaya and Dr. Salahuddin received the trophy.

Aishwarya of Third B Pharm rendered invocation. Dr. T.M. Pramod Kumar, Principal, JSS College of Pharmacy, welcomed. Dr. R.S.Chandan, Secretary, IPA, Mysuru branch, proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. B.M. Gurupadayya, Treasurer, IPA, Mysuru, was present.
