World Senior Citizens’ Day held, prizes distributed

Mysuru:  The World Senior Citizens’ Day -2018 was held at Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Bhavan in city recently.

The programme was organised by Department of Empowerment of Senior and Specially-Abled Citizens in association with JSS Senior Citizens’ Helpline Centre, JSS Old Age Home, JSS Senior Citizens’ Day Care Centre and Organisations involved with welfare of Senior Citizens.

Retired Sanskrit teacher Lingappa inaugurated the programme. District Officer of Department of Empowerment of Senior and Specially-Abled Citizen’s Abhikumar,  Programme Co-ordinator Basavaraj, JSS Senior Citizens Helpline Centre Manager Gurumallappa, JSS Old Age Home Manager Prabhuswamy and others were present on the occasion. As many as 90 senior citizens took part in the programme.

The cultural programme was also held as part of the celebrations. Following are the prize winners of various competitions organised on the occasion, according to a press release from the Project Co-ordinator:

Folk song (men) 60 – 70 years: N.S. Bhagawan, Siddalingaiah and M. Chikkamada Naika won first, second and third prizes respectively; 71- 80: Nagaraj, Hanumanthashetty and N.Krishnamurthy –  first, second and third; 80 & above: A.N. Murthy, N. Veeraiah and Ramaiah – first, second and third prizes.

Folk song (women) 60 – 70 years: Nagamma, Sudha Padiyar and Ramamani got 1st, 2nd and 3rd; 71- 80: Dr. Manonmani, C. Shakunthala and Jayanthi Pai  – 1st, 2nd and 3rd; 80 & above: B.Lalitha Sharma – 1st.

Mono-acting (men) 60 – 70: H.L. Jagadeesh, Krishnamurthy and B.S. Dasegowda – 1st, 2nd and 3rd; 71 – 80: B.G. Vasudev, Nagaraj and S. Basavarajegowda – 1st, 2nd and 3rd;  80 and above: N.Ramaiah, Nageshwara Rao and N.Veeraiah – 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Mono-acting (women) 60- 70: Ramamani, Nagamma and Selina – 1st, 2nd and 3rd; 71 – 80: Yadugiri Gopolan, Jayanthi Pai and Shakunthala – 1st, 2nd and 3rd; 80 plus: B. Lalitha Sharma -1st.
