World Tourism Day: Various events planned in city

Mysore/Mysuru:  As part of World Tourism Day celebrations, Department of Tourism has organised various programmes in the city.

According to a press release by Joint Director of Tourism Department, M.K. Savita, essay writing contest was organised for the students of Mahajana Tourism Development Institute today. A procession of 15 to 20 cultural troupes and students of Vidya Vikas College, Sadvidya and Mahajana’s College has been organised from Varaha Gate of Mysore Palace tomorrow (Sept. 27).

On Sept. 29, Swachhata Pakhwada involving NCC Cadets and NSS volunteers and State volunteers will be held at Chennakeshava Temple, Somanathapura in T. Narasipur taluk and collection of waste and cleanliness programme on the steps to Chamundi Hill in the city.

On Sept. 30, a sapling plantation programme has been organised in association with Department of Horticulture and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), added the press release.

Mega Rally

Various stakeholders of tourism including Mysuru Travels Association (MTA) and Mysuru Hotel Owners’ Association, in association with the District Administration, have organised a colourful rally as part of World Tourism Day celebrations in the city tomorrow (Sept. 27).

In a joint press conference at Pathrakartara Bhavan here yesterday, President of World Tourism Day Committee S.J. Ashok said: “Like every year, this year too, World Tourism Day will be celebrated in a meaningful manner. Tourists visiting Palace will be welcomed with sweets and flowers at Varaha Gate at 10 am.  Social Welfare Minister Dr. H. C. Mahadevappa who is also the District in-Charge Minister, will be present along with MP, MLAs and MLCs from the district.”

Later, a colourful rally will be taken out from Gun House Circle to Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram Circle (City Railway Station), via B.N. Road, Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar Circle, K.R. Circle, D. Devaraja Urs Road and JLB Road in the city, said Ashok.

The rally will have various folk troupes like that of Dollu Kunitha, Kamsale, Puja Kunita, Patha Kunita, Chande-Maddale, Kodava dance and Gaarudi Gombe, etc.

The sarots driven by elephants and horses, Tibetan music troupe, Tourism students and representatives of Electric Vehicle (EV) manufacturers will also be a part of the rally.

President of Mysuru Hotel Owners’ Association C. Narayanagowda, President of Mysuru Travels Association J.P. Urs, Office-bearers David, A.C. Ravi and Anil Raj were present.
