WPL-2 opening ceremony to be starry affair

The opening ceremony of the second edition of Women’s Premier League (WPL) will be a star-studded affair with Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan to set the stage on fire at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, this evening.

 ‘King’ Khan will be joined by actors Tiger Shroff, Shahid Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Kartik Aaryan, Sidharth Malhotra amongst other stars to kick start this year’s WPL.

Soon after the opening ceremony, last season’s champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will lock horns with Delhi Capitals (DC), season one finalists. Delhi Capitals led by Meg Lanning will be looking to avenge their loss against Harnampreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians.

All five captains, Alyssa Healy (UP Warriorz), Beth Mooney (Gujarat Gaints), Harmanpreet Kaur (Mumbai Indians), Smriti Mandhana (Royal Challengers Bengalore) and Meg Lanning (Delhi Capitals) gathered together in Bengaluru for the captain’s meeting ahead of the opening ceremony, yesterday.

M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru will host the matches till Mar. 4 and the remaining matches including the eliminator (Mar. 15) and the final (Mar.17) will be held at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.  A total of 22 matches will be played in the tournament and the top team in the points table will earn a direct entry to final. The other finalist team will be decided through an eliminator between the second and third-placed teams in the table. The matches will begin at 7.30 pm daily.
