Mysuru: Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has urged the Union Government to include Mysuru in the proposed “National Mission for the Development of 50 Globally Competitive Tourist Destinations in India,” announced in the Union Budget 2025-26.
Meeting Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi, Yaduveer submitted a proposal seeking the city’s inclusion in the mission, under which each selected destination is eligible for Central funding of up to Rs. 500 crore.
The MP highlighted Mysuru’s historical, cultural and spiritual significance, stating that the city has the potential to emerge as a globally competitive tourist destination.
He pointed to Mysuru’s royal heritage, the Mysore Palace, the internationally known Mysuru Dasara festival, its reputation as a yoga and wellness destination, traditional handicrafts and arts and its road, rail and air connectivity as key strengths.
Yaduveer said Mysuru attracts millions of domestic and international visitors every year and that inclusion in the proposed mission would help improve tourism infrastructure, strengthen visitor amenities, conserve heritage sites and promote sustainable tourism.
He added that the initiative could also attract public and private investment while generating employment and supporting artisans, small businesses and the hospitality sector.
The MP assured the Union Minister of his cooperation in coordinating with the Karnataka Government, local administration and tourism stakeholders for the effective implementation of the project if Mysuru is selected.
The MP also appealed to the Karnataka Tourism Department to prepare and submit a comprehensive proposal to the Centre, highlighting Mysuru’s tourism potential and unique heritage.
He expressed confidence that coordinated efforts by the Centre and the State Government would improve the city’s chances of being included in the national mission.
In a press release, Yaduveer described his meeting with the Union Tourism Minister as positive and expressed hope that the Centre would give favourable consideration to Mysuru’s proposal.
